Events for Sixth Formers
Study Days intended for sixth formers in the maintained sector are to give them the opportunity to find out more about the subject they are interested in studying at university. The events allow students to engage critically with their subject as well as encourage them to work independently and prepare for their university applications.
Places are allocated to students from schools based on the following criteria:
1. Schools with a lower than national average proportion of students achieving 5 A*-C GCSE rate and a higher than national average proportion of students in receipt of free school meals (FSM)
2a. Schools with just a lower than national average 5 A*-C GCSE rate
2b. Schools with just a higher than national average proportion of students in receipt of FSM
Please contact pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk for further information.
The Pathways Programme will be holding its annual Application Information Day on Saturday 21st September 2013.
This is for Year 13 students who are intending to make an application to Oxford in the autumn, from schools which have little tradition of sending students to Oxford.
The day will include talks about the admissions process (UCAS forms, tests and interviews), mock interviews, and Q&A with tutors and current students. There will also be information sessions for any accompanying parents and teachers.
Please contact pathways@admin.ox.ac.uk for further information.
The Admissions Officer visits schools and colleges to give presentations, jointly with a colleague from Cambridge, on academic and social life at Oxford and Cambridge, the College system and application process. The events are designed for students, teachers and careers advisors (and, in the case of evening events, parents).
We ask schools and colleges to work collaboratively, where possible, and encourage host institutions to open the event to others in their local area. If you are interested in setting up an Information Event for your school or college, or would be interested in serving as a host venue for your local area, please contact the Admissions Officer.
We are pleased to host informal visits at Christ Church for sixth formers throughout the year. These events give students the opportunity to learn more about life at Oxford, our courses and the application process, as well as meet current students and tutors, and eat lunch in an Oxford college dining hall.
Delivered in schools, the Admissions Workshops are designed for students at schools in the maintained sector who are in the process of making an application to the University of Oxford. The workshop gives candidates detailed information about the application and interview process, as well as an opportunity to view a mock interview demonstration on DVD and try out their own interview skills.
The UNIQ summer schools are the only official summer schools for the University of Oxford. It is important to stress that whilst Oxford provides facilities and accomodation for other summer school experiences (that often require substantial attendance fees) these are not officially endorsed by the University and are in no way connected to the UNIQ summer schools.
The aim of the UNIQ summer schools is to award places to those who would benefit the most from the aspiration raising activities which are at the heart of the summer school experience. Therefore, preference is given to applicants who come from schools with little or no history of successful application to Oxford, and to applicants who live in postcode areas in which we would expect fewer young people to go on to higher education. Please see the UNIQ website for more details about the courses available and the application process: http://www.uniq.ox.ac.uk/
