Financial Information

We are acutely aware of the concerns of prospective students and their parents over the increasing cost of higher education. We are determined that financial concerns should not deter people from applying or subsequently succeeding in their studies.

At Christ Church every effort is made to provide help where it is possible. The information below details the costs of studying and living here, and some of the help available.

Fees and Student Funding Update - March 2011

Oxford has recently outlined its proposals for the 2012/13 tuition charge for UK and EU students - subject to approval by the Office for Fair Access (OFFA). The charge is accompanied by a generous financial support package and continued commitment to widening access.   Please click here to be directed to the Oxford University website for full details.

Annual Costs

To help you when planning your finances, here are some of the costs that you will face:

University Tuition Fee (Home/EU) for 2011-2012: see above

Accommodation for the 8-week term for 2011-2012: £1,000.16 per term.

Dinner for the 8-week term is £117.60 for subscribers (£2.10 per night).

Breakfast and lunch are on a pay-as-you-go basis: breakfast is approximately £2.60; lunch is approximately £3.60

Financial Support

Christ Church is sensitive to the growing financial costs associated with a university education. We are in a fortunate position to be able to offer financial assistance to students who require it.

Christ Church participates in the Oxford Opportunity Bursary Scheme those purpose is to help to support UK students from low income backgrounds, meaning that no home student with the ability and potential to study at Oxford should be deterred from making an application to us based on financial grounds.  Currently, students who qualify for the Oxford Opportunity Bursary, whether in full or a partial award, receive a 10% reduction on their board and lodging costs at Christ Church.

Christ Church offers a number of Christ Church Entrance Bursaries, which give substantial extra help to those from lower income families. The additional help given by Christ Church Bursaries can be up to £2,000 per year for those who are ineligible for Oxford Opportunity Bursaries.

UK residents can apply for up to 28 days’ vacation residence grant to help cover the cost of accommodation if they are required to stay in Oxford outside of term time. Scholarships (£200 p.a.) and Exhibitions (£150 p.a.) are awarded on academic merit to students in their second year. Book grants of £210 are available to all our undergraduates. Students who find that they are in unforeseen financial difficulty, can apply (through the college) for a University Hardship Fund and/or Government Access to Learning Fund grant. Undergraduate Scholarships

As is the case at all Oxford colleges, no awards are offered on entry to Christ Church, apart from Organ and Choral Scholarships. All undergraduates are considered for a variety of scholarships and other awards on academic grounds for their second and subsequent years. Organ Scholarships and Academical Clerkships (Choral Scholarships) are awarded in most years. Organ Scholars are expected to study music; Academical Clerks may study any subject. In addition, Instrumental Awards are offered to undergraduates in recognition of their contribution to the musical life of the College. Please click here for the Music faculty's website, where you will find full details about these scholarships under "Prospective Students".
