The Christ Church Association Careers Programme
The programme offers advice and other help to Members of the House who are deciding on a career or looking for a job. It is aimed primarily at undergraduates, postgraduates and recent graduates, but increasingly we are also asked to help older Members who are looking for new employment, a change of career, or jobs in different parts of the world. The programme is thus open to any Member of the House without restriction on age, present employment (if any) or country of residence.
The key aspects of the programme are:
• Helping members with individual enquiries: for those who know what they want to do, or who wish to work in a particular country, we will try to enlist the help of an experienced member. For graduates moving to academic posts, we may be able to contact someone at the same university. We can also help undergraduates find placements for their year abroad.
• Organising the informal CCA Vacation Scheme: complementing official internships run by certain employment sectors as well as internships listed by the Oxford University Careers Service, this scheme identifies a limited number of informal vacation jobs or summer internships offered by Christ Church Old Members. The scheme is very popular, and unfortunately we cannot help everyone, but where no job is available, we will try to put you in touch with someone with first-hand knowledge of that industry, so you can at least learn more about it.
How you can help:
If you are happy to be contacted by other Members who are looking for careers advice, able to organise an internship within your company or industry, or willing to attend a careers evening at Christ Church please email Tony Hart (firstname.lastname@example.org), our CCA Careers Adviser, with details of your career and how you are able to help. The job market is exceptionally competitive at the moment and any advice or opportunities provided to members is always received very gratefully.
If you would like to offer an internship through the Oxford Careers Service, please click here.
If you would like to benefit from the scheme:
For careers advice, please contact Tony Hart with your CV and a ‘covering email’ he can forward on to Old Members who may be able to help. For queries related to undergraduate opportunities, contact the JCR Careers Rep, Charlton Bannister: email@example.com.
