From time to time, we organise special events, focused on a single curriculum subject, such as Art, Science, or RE, which are aimed at Secondary pupils and sixth formers, to give them an experience of University life.
For example, we are able to offer seminars to sixth form students, led by one of our Canon Professors on topics relevant to the AS and A Level RE syllabus. Previous seminar topics have included Morality and War, Ethics and the Recession and the Philosophy of a Suffering God. This is a chance for students to join with other schools and be taught by world experts in the fields they are studying, and also have a taste of university-style learning. If you are interested in a seminar on a specific theme, please contact us, well in advance.
Topics available are:
- Religion and Morality
- Religion and the Public Square
- Forgiveness and Politics
- Just War and Punishment
- World Religions and Interfaith Studies
- Science and Religion
- Christian Doctrine
- Religion and Politics
- Religion and Film
- Religion and Literature
- History of Church Buildings
'The seminar was good in terms of developing key skills, as the students had a chance to discuss things, and it was a good opportunity for them to listen to a university-style talk. The organisation and information provided before the visit was outstanding.' (Philosophy teacher, The Dearne Advanced Learning Centre, Barnsley)
Seminars cost £4 per student (incl VAT) and may include a tour of the Cathedral.
Refreshments may be available, but at extra cost.
To find out about upcoming seminars and to book, please contact Jackie Holderness, Cathedral Education Officer.
