George Henry Richard was born in London, the only son of Richard Combe, a brewer, and his wife The Lady Constance, daughter of the 3rd Marquess of Conyngham. George’s grandfather, Richard Henry Combe, built Pierrepont House, Frensham, Surrey in the 1870’s. At the time of the 1901 census, George and his sisters were staying there with their grandparents (who employed 23 household staff).
George was educated at Wellington House, Westgate-on-Sea as a boarder, and Eton. He was at Christ Church from 1908 for a year, and returned to UK from the USA in June 1914. He commenced Service in 1914, serving in the ranks before his commission as 2nd Lieutenant. He was killed in action at the Battle of the Ancre.
His Estate amounted to £5610 4s 8d, administration granted to his father.
His name is on the Thiepval Memorial War Memorial, Pier and Face 16 B and 16 C. and on the memorial at St Mary’s Church, Frensham.
