The Cathedral would not be able to do much of its work without the help of some 600 volunteers who share in different aspects of its life.  They may give many hours, or just a few. They may be on a rota helping each week, or they may come just a few times a year.  They come from many different parishes and often help in the Cathedral during the week while continuing to worship in their parish church on Sundays and in other ways continuing to share in the life and work of their home parish. In alternate years the Cathedral holds a special Garden Party for those who work as volunteers.

Help is particularly needed in staffing the Cathedral shop, set in the lovely 13th century Chapter House, a room of classic perfection, full of rich carving.  It also houses the Cathedral Treasury where silver from many of the diocesan parishes is displayed in secure conditions. Usually the Cathedral will ask to take up references to support a volunteer’s offer to help.
