Academic Background

I came up to Oxford in 2001 as an Undergraduate studying Mathematics at St. Hugh's College. During my MMath, I completed two research Summer placements. The first was with Prof. Michael Giles at Oxford University Computing Laboratories and concerned numerical analysisof an implicit discretisation of the 1D convection/diffusion equation with Dirac initial data. The second was with Dr Tiina Roose at the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM) and was funded by the Royal Society. It involved a collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital, London to develop mathematical models of lung mucus clearance during manual physiotherapy. In October 2005 I began a DPhil at OCIAM with the title 'Multiscale Modelling of Fluid, Drug and Oxygen Transport in Vascular Tumours' and am soon to submit my thesis. In October 2008 I began a Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church.

Undergraduate Teaching

Applied Mathematics (fluid dynamics, viscous flow, perturbation methods etc)

Research Interests

Mathematical modelling of fluid dynamical and medical problems. In particular the development and application of homogenization techniques to model tissues, specifically for tumour growth and treatment, and for tissue engineered systems.
