Academic background

I studied at the University of St Andrews between 2003 and 2008, obtaining an MA in Medieval History in 2007, and an MLitt in 2008. I began my DPhil at Christ Church in 2008, and am currently writing a thesis about the belief in, and veneration of, angels in Anglo-Saxon England.

History of the British Isles I (c.300-1087)

Research Interests

The history and literature of early medieval Europe, especially Anglo-Saxon England; mythmaking and belief; monastic culture; the evolution of practices of punishment.

Publications include

‘Hengest and Horsa: the manipulation of history and myth from the adventus Saxonum to Historia Brittonum’, Nottingham Medieval Studies 51 (2007), 1-19.

Hobbies

Music, playing guitars, progressive rock, being in the mountains, photography and design.
