eMatters June 2013

October 2013

We’ve been busy since the last e-Matters with a plethora of events for you: The Noughties had  a drinks party in London, the well behaved 1958 and 1963 years had reunions in Hall. The Rhodes House scholars had a supper party and listened to Edward de Bono extolling the pacifying virtues of Marmite, the 1980’s rowers held a dinner and lauded the benefits of resveratrol in red wine and port. Guests at the Association Dinner and Drama in Hall had a splendid Elizabethan evening but had to sharpen up their Latin, Benefactors and guests at a reception at Spencer House were treated to an evening amidst the finest Georgian splendour, but knives were sharpened in the excellent talk on “Collisions in Coalition” by Michael Dobbs. The years 1966-71 packed Hall for their Gaudy, dining on lobster and fillet of beef, the families of this year’s Freshers crowded into Hall for tea and Victoria sponge, in the first Family Programme event of the year.

Yet still we are not done with keeping you in touch with each other and with the House!
Featured below are some exciting events, none more so than the first event for a number of years aimed mainly, but certainly not exclusively, at Medics and Scientists. We are very fortunate to have a discussion led by Professors Simon Kay (1970), and James Neuberger (1968), on 'Are new developments in transplantation sinister or inspiring? With drinks and canapés afterwards, and the chance to chat and network with members of all ages this is surely one to book now!

Although the schedule at Christ Church is hectic I am certain Samuel Butler’s view no longer holds true: “The dons of Oxford and Cambridge are too busy educating the young men to be able to teach them anything.”

We hope to see you soon.

Best wishes,
Simon.

Vice President, Christ Church Association & Deputy Development Director.
