Saturn’s Reign Returns
Christ Church, 10.15pm
Commemoration Balls are traditionally the most opulent Balls in Oxford and the only ones which are White Tie; the Christ Church Commemoration Ball 2011 was no different. Starting with an Opening Ceremony in Tom Quad, including champagne and canapés, the gates to the main event in the beautiful gardens of Christ Church opened at 10.15pm.
A large variety of food and drink stalls was available throughout the night, ending with breakfast from 5am. All the while guests were entertained by live music, including a chart-topping headline act, comedy, magic, visual spectacles and other entertainments, not to mention the funfair on the Broadwalk. The survivors’ photo at 5.45am marked the end of the Ball and as the sun rose over Tom Tower, the gates to the Christ Church Commemoration Ball was shut once more until 2014.
Those who opted for the Dining Ticket were entitled to all of the above but also a delicious four course meal served in the famous Christ Church Hall leading into the Opening Ceremony.
