Christ Church Cathedral 8.00 pm
This Armistice Day concert featured two great masterpieces Mozart composed in 1791, the final year of his life.
Clarinet Concerto in A major, K.622
Requiem in D minor, K.626
The Clarinet Concerto was played by the 2006 BBC Young Musician of the Year, Mark Simpson. This was followed by a performance of the Requiem as a fitting tribute to war dead in a new edition by Timothy Jones (Christ Church, 1985) who is the latest scholar to offer an alternative to Süssmayr's completion of the work, closer to what he believes were Mozart's true intentions. Amonst the soloists, Timothy Murfin is an ex-chorister of Christ Church. Christ Church Cathedral Choir will be performing Mozart's valedictory masterpiece under their Music Director Stephen Darlington.
Jeni Bern (soprano), Liora Grodnikaite (mezzo soprano),
Benjamin Hulet (tenor), Timothy Mirfin (bass)
Mark Simpson (clarinet)
Old Members were invited to a pre-concert drinks reception at 7pm in the Bayne Room.
