5 April 2011, 7.30pm - Christ Church Dinner for the Christopher Butler English Tutorial Fund

The 2011 Oxford Literay Festival presented the most impressive and prestigious programme of events yet staged at Oxford. The programme for Tuesday 5th April included members Michael Dobson (1979), Nigel Lawson (1951) and Christopher Butler, who spoke on 'Why Does the 'High Culture' still matter?' at 6.30pm.


2 April 2011 - Stephen Clarke (1978): Paris Revealed: The Secret Life of the City

As part of the Oxford Literary Festival, Stephen Clarke, author of the bestselling 1000 Years of Annoying the French, gave a talk in Christ Church Hall at 12pm on 2nd April 2011. The occasion marked the launch of his new insider's guide to Paris, his home town for 17 years.

In Paris Revealed:The Secret Life of the City, Stephen takes us on a behind the scenes tour, letting us in on the secrets the Parisians would much rather we didn't know. We learn how to visit the city without annoying the locals, where to find fantastic art away from the crowds and why Parisian men feel compelled to pee in the street.

24 - 27 March 2011: Special Interest Weekend at Christ Church 'Blood & Roses'

The Wars of the Roses, that forty year struggle between the Houses of Lancaster and York, is a familiar theme in English historical memory. But how many of us know the origins and consequences of this prolonged warfare? The conflict, both political and military, dominated English affairs in the latter half of the fifteenth century and culminatedin the accession of Henry VII and the founding of a new ruling dynasty: The Tudors.

12 March: Family Programme Luncheon, Christ Church

Family Programme Members were invited to the annual Luncheon in Hall on Saturday 12th March 2011. This popular occasion provided a unique opportunity for family members of our undergraduates to meet together and share their experiences of Christ Church. Tutors and other members of the Christ Church Governing Body were also invited.

12 February 2011 - Oxford University Alumni Careers Day

Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden, London, 9:30am - 5pm

The first alumni careers day exclusively for Oxford University alumni was aimed as mid-career professionals who wanted a boost to their career, or who were looking to change direction.

30 January 2011 - Norfolk Lunch

Lingwood, Norfolk, 12.30pm

Old Member Catherine Blaiklock (1981) kindly invited all Christ Church alumni living in Norfolk to an informal buffet lunch at her house on Sunday 30th January 2011 at 12.30pm. It was certainly a sociable and convivial meal! Spouses, partners and friends were welcomed too!

25 August - 19 December: Sacred Faces - Icons in Oxford

Christ Church Picture Gallery

Icons are used in the Eastern Orthodox Church to focus worshippers' prayers. Their form and function have hardly changed over the last fifteen centuries and their spiritual message is retained even in a museum setting. This exhibition will show Greek and Russian icons from the Picture Gallery and the Ashmolean Museum which are normally not on view.

The world-famous Choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford perform a programme of traditional carols interspersed with Christmas music by some of the greatest and best-loved English composers. Last year, we sold out of tickets for this extraordinary evening. 

9th December - Varsity Rugby Match

After the success of our Twickenham event last year we decided to repeat the event this year. We joined with the University to offer you the best package we could at Twickenham this December.

28 November - Advent Carol Service

Christ Church Cathedral, 5:30pm

The Advent Carol Service always proves enormously popular and this year we welcomed old guests and new. The service was held on the last Sunday of Michaelmas term, 28th November 2010.
