The Glacier Trust is a UK registered charity working to mitigate the effects of climate change upon communities living at high altitudes in the Himalayas. Rapid atmospheric warming has brought changes of weather patterns. Long droughts and shorter heavier rainfall events are increasingly frequent, making life precarious for remote and already undernourished subsistence communities.
The Trust provides financial support and expertise for local grassroots Non Governmental Organisations working in these high environments, enabling communities to adapt to their new circumstances and share their solutions. The Trust also supports Nepali postgraduate education with research funding and twinning arrangements with UK Universities in order to enable Nepali understanding and solutions to these problems.
