Died of an illness contracted on active service aged 25

Hugh Graystone Penfold was born at Findon, Worthing, the first son of Hugh Richard Penfold Wyatt, Barrister, and owner of the Cissbury Estate.

He was educated at Winchester, and Christ Church. He was mobilised in August 1914, 2nd Lieutenant 1st Sussex Yeomanry, and served in Gallipoli.  He died at Alexandria of an illness contracted on active service.

Hugh Graystone Penfold and his brother 2nd Lieutenant Geoffrey Wilfrid Penfold Wyatt,  lst The Buffs, East Kent Regiment, who died 25 September 1916, are commemorated by a window at St John the Baptist Church, Findon, the gift of their father.
