John Frederick was born in Athens, the only son and heir of Sir Edwin Henry Egerton, formerly His Britannic Majesty’s Minister to the Court at Athens, and later at Rome, and Princess Olga nee Lobanow de Rostoff.

He was educated at Winchester and spent one year, 1914, at Christ Church.

He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps 8th Battalion, and had served in France and Belgium when he was injured, and died of his wounds. His Estate amounted to £250. 4s. 6d. Probate granted to his widowed mother.

He is remembered in a window at St Michael & All Angels Church, Cheriton, Hants.
