Patrons Lecture

Dr Nicholas Penny, Director of the National Gallery, London and one of the world’s leading museum directors gave the inaugural Christ Church Picture Gallery Patrons Lecture on Thursday 5 May 2011. He spoke on ‘Sculpture and the Sculptural in Renaissance Painting’. His talk gave an exciting insight into how Renaissance painters invented and used sculpture and sculptural forms in their two dimensional works.

The lecture was open to the public and proved to be immensely popular, overpowering the capacity of the new Blue Boar Lecture theatre.
