The Oxford Printmakers

18th May - 8th June 2008

Five years after their highly successful anniversary show The Oxford Printmakers' Cooperative  exhibited again at Christ Church Picture Gallery. This group exhibition enabled the visitor to get an insight into the very interesting and diverse medium of print-making and how it manifests itself through a variety of artists.

In Arcadia Ego: Italian landscape drawings of the 16th and 17th century

1st April - 24th June 2008

The landscape as a worthy subject matter arrived late in the art-scene. However, the personal, less representational medium of drawing celebrated the genre. The drawings in this exhibition included landscape drawings by Carracci and Claude Lorrain.

Italian poems interpreted: drawings after Dante and Tasso

11th March – 14th May  2008

Jacopo Ligozzi’s (1547 – 1626) drawings after scenes from Dante’s Divine Comedy belong to the most famous 16th century illustrations of this poem.

Jeff Clarke - Paintings, Drawings, Etchings

Christ Church Picture Gallery welcomed again an exhibition of works by the Oxford artist Jeff Clarke. His paintings, drawings and etchings focus predominantly on his recent still-life subjects, drawn from around his Oxford studio.

Fantastically Real: 16th & 17th Century drawings from Bologna

This exhibition explored Bolognese drawings from Christ Church’s own collection, among them Bartolommeo Passarotti, the Carracci, Guido Reni, Domenichino, Guercino and the only female Old Master in the Christ Church collection Elisabetta Sirani.
