Financial Information

We
are acutely aware of the concerns of prospective students and their parents over the increasing cost of higher education. We are determined that financial concerns should not deter people from applying or subsequently succeeding in their studies.  At Christ Church every effort is made to provide help where it is possible. The information below details the costs of studying and living here, and some of the help available.

Annual Costs

To help you when planning your finances, here are some of the costs that you will face:

University Tuition Fee (Home/EU) for 2009-2010: £3,225 p.a.

Lodging
(including dinner) for the 8-week term for 2008-2009: £1,077

Breakfast and lunch are on a pay-as-you-go basis: breakfast is approximately £1.50; lunch is approximately £2.50

Financial Support

Christ Church is sensitive to the growing financial costs associated with a university education.  We are in a fortunate position to be able to offer financial assistance to students who require it, meaning that no student with the ability and potential to study at Oxford should be deterred from making an application to us based on financial grounds.

Christ Church is a participating college in the Oxford Opportunity Bursary Scheme. All UK publicly-funded students whose residual household income is less than £50,000 will qualify for an Oxford Opportunity Bursary. The value of the Bursary will be calculated on a sliding scale according to household income. In the first year, the Bursary will be worth up to £4100, with students receiving up to £3225 in subsequent years.

Christ Church offers a number of Christ Church Entrance Bursaries, which give substantial extra help to those from lower income families. The additional help given by Christ Church Bursaries can be up to £2000 per year.

The Stone-Mallabar Memorial Fund provides interest-free loans of £500-£1000 which are repayable within five years after graduating.
UK residents can apply for up to 28 days’ vacation residence grant to help cover the cost of accommodation if they are required to stay in Oxford outside of term time. Scholarships (£200 p.a.) and Exhibitions (£150 p.a.) are awarded on academic merit to students in their second year. Book grants of £210 are available to all our undergraduates. Students who find that they are in unforeseen financial difficulty can apply (through the college) for a Government Access to Learning Fund grant.

Undergraduate Scholarships

As is the case at all Oxford colleges, no awards are offered on entry to Christ Church, apart from Organ and Choral Scholarships. All undergraduates are considered for a variety of scholarships and other awards on academic grounds for their second and subsequent years. Organ Scholarships and Academical Clerkships (Choral Scholarships) are awarded in most years. Organ Scholars are expected to study music; Academical Clerks may study any subject. In addition, Instrumental Awards are offered to undergraduates in recognition of their contribution to the musical life of the College. Please click here for the Music faculty's website, where you will find full details about these scholarships under "Prospective Students".
