Over the last few months considerable work has been done to ensure that electricity supplies for Christ Church and the centre of Oxford are secure and reliable in the years ahead. The electricity Substation in the Brewhouse has been relocated in Blue Boar yard and the new substation is currently being connected to college and outside users.
The new substation has been built on the site of what were previously garages for Cathedral Canons, with an attractive stone faced exterior to match existing structures there. The Brewhouse will be redeveloped to house the Christ Church Muniment Room (Archive) as part of the coming Blue Boar redevelopment. The connection of the new substation has entailed the laying of a great deal of new cable, in Blue Boar Yard, Blue Boar Street and throughout the college.
