A new Requiem by Howard Goodall, commissioned by London Musici (orchestra) for performance with the Rambert Dance Company, has its première at Sadler's Wells Theatre in November, as part of a 6 month UK tour with Rambert. Howard Goodall read Music at Christ Church in the 1970s and is well known as a composer, TV and radio broadcaster and the newly-appointed Government Ambassador for Singing. He has worked closely with the Cathedral Choir at Christ Church and in particular with Christ Church's Organist and Musical Director Stephen Darlington, for whom he has written a number of works.
Howard Goodall's rapport with Stephen dates back to the Choir singing the Vicar of Dibley and Mr Bean theme tunes and to a commission of a Mass by Stephen some fifteen years ago.
The CD was recorded by EMI in April, with Christ Church Cathedral Choir and London Musici conducted by Stephen Darlington and EMI artists, Natasha Marsh, Alfie Boe and Christopher Maltman.
The CD will be released on 22nd September and the Choir will be performing at the London première in Sadler's Wells theatre on 11th November, the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
