Christ Church's Prof. Judith Pallot is leading an important conference entitled 'Gender, Geography and Punishment in Comparative Perspective', on June 22nd and 23rd 2010. The conference is sponsored by the ESRC and will be hosted by the School of Geography and Environment and Centre of Criminology, with events taking place at Christ Church.
The conference will bring together geographers, criminologists, sociologists and anthropologists to discuss how 'space' and 'place' shape modern penal systems and affect the people drawn into them. The papers will consider theoretical and feminist perspectives on spaces of incarceration, women in the asylum system, birth to death in prisons, the transformation of identities in different penal jurisdictions and representations of incarceration in Russia, the USA, UK and Europe.
