As the traditional Torpids bump races came to an end on the river Isis on Saturday March the 6th, the Christ Church Men's First Torpid rowed home with elegant ease to maintain the position it won last year at the 'Head of the River'. The power and speed of the crew throughout the week placed them comfortably beyond the reach of the boats of Pembroke and Magdalen colleges which pursued them.
The Women's First Torpid also rowed well, but dropped two positions to fourth in the first division, and the Men's Second Torpid rowed well to gain one position, ending the week fifth in Division Three. The victory was followed by the customary dinner and celebration, and speeches congratulating the crews and looking forward to Summer Eights, and the burning of a boat in celebration on the Meadow. We congratulate all who took part for their excellent performance.
