The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, visited Christ Church on Sunday May 8th as part of his four day visit to Oxford Diocese. In the afternoon he was in the Cathedral to address ordinands in training and in the evening he was the guest at 'After Eight', speaking about why he finds Psalm 88 so inspiring. The Archbishop was a Canon of Christ Church and Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity from 1986-92.
During the weekend he visited Emmanuel Church in Bicester and at St Mary’s Church in Banbury, and the Bodleian Library in Oxford to look at an exhibition on the creation of the King James Bible. This is the first time that the Archbishop of Canterbury has made a formal visit to the diocese since the visit of the Most Rev George Carey in 1999.
