Christ Church has been celebrating 2012 in grand style with a series of open air concerts in Tom Quad over this weekend. Thousands of people have come to enjoy the concerts, despite less than perfect British weather!
Friday's Concert featured Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and the BBC Concert Orchestra who performed a magical evening of classical music.
Saturday's concert. performed by Oxford Philomusica, conducted by Marios Papadopoulous, featured Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture and marks the bicentenary of the Battle or Borodino. It was insired by a similar performance of the 1812 overture by Christ Church students in Tom Quad in 1961. The programme also included music by Dvorak, Walton and Verdi.
Sunday night's concert, on a glorously sunny evening, was arranged by The Oxfordshire County Music Service as is 'A Gala Concert of British Music', and featured young people from all over the county performing choral and instrumental music from the British Isles.
Christ Church was delighted to be able to open its gates to visitors for this exciting weekend of music and hospitality.
