The annual Court Sermon to mark the beginning of the legal year took place during Evensong at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 9 October. A High Court judge, Mr Justice Fulford, came to Christ Church from London to hear the Court Sermon in the Cathedral and receive a pair of white gloves from the Vice Chancellor. The ceremony has its roots in the Assize system set up by Magna Carta in 1215, and has been developed in recent years with the addition of the High Sheriff's Law Lecture, before the cathedral service. The Court Sermon was preached this year by the Rev'd Dr Colin Thompson, Emeritus Fellow of St Catharine's College and Assistant Minister of the United Reformed Church in Wheatley.
