Hundreds of people from across Oxfordshire gathered in the Cathedral on Saturday afternoon for a special service to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Bishop of Oxford spoke warmly of how the Queen has achieved universal respect through her unstinting public service across several generations. During the service, the Cathedral Choir sang the anthem Prayer by George Herbert, set to music by former Organist of Christ Church, Francis Grier. The anthem was commissioned for the new Choirbook for the Queen, published to mark the Diamond Jubilee. The service ended with the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire raising three cheers for Her Majesty the Queen, with children releasing red, white and blue helium-filled balloons. A recording of the service will be broadcast by BBC Radio Oxford on Sunday morning at 9am.
