First ever Lay and Ecumenical Canons
Christ Church Cathedral is delighted to announce that we have appointed the first honorary lay and ecumenical Canons in the Cathedral’s history. They are: Reverend Professor Paul S. Fiddes, a Baptist minister and Professor of Systematic Theology at Oxford University Mr. Bede Gerrard, the County Ecumenical Officer for Churches Together in Oxfordshire and a Reader in the Orthodox Church Mrs. Rosemary Pearce, the Secretary to the Diocese of Oxford, effectively its chief executive Professor Lionel Tarassenko, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering at Oxford University The Canons were installed during Choral Evensong at 6pm on Saturday 12th May 2012. The Dean of Christ Church, the Very Reverend Christopher Lewis said “This is a first for Christ Church Cathedral: we already have a number of Honorary Canons who are clergy of the Oxford Diocese. Now that valuable team is being supported by others who can provide help and advice from lay and ecumenical perspectives.” For further information, please contact the Sub Dean, the Reverend Edmund Newell on 01865 276278.
