Every other year Christ Church holds an Open Day in conjunction with the Oxford Preservation Trusts’ Open Doors weekend. This year our Open Day took place on Saturday 14th September and, although the weather wasn’t great, we welcomed over five thousand visitors to the College and Cathedral.
Visitors were able to wander through many of the gardens and look round the Great Hall, Upper Library, Picture Gallery and Cathedral. There were guided tours, treasure hunts and an art exhibition to enjoy and even an opportunity to join a choir and sing some favourite hymns. The JCR was open for refreshments and the Cathedral Shop did a roaring trade with an outlet at the foot of the Hall stairs.
This was the fifth Open Day that Christ Church has held and, like the others, the atmosphere was remarkably relaxed and friendly with a good number of people from the city taking the opportunity to visit. The day ended with Choral Evensong in the Cathedral, a fitting way to end a very happy and worthwhile day.
