Jubilee Bridge opened at Christ Church, Oxford

On 20 June 2014, Christopher Ainsley and Martin Alderson-Smith formally opened a new footbridge across the River Cherwell at Christ Church Meadow to be known as the Jubilee Bridge. The bridge has been paid for by generous gifts from these old members of Christ Church and replaces a static punt.

The bridge was designed by The Morton Partnership, which has managed the project on behalf of Christ Church. The main contractor was Avon Construction Limited and the bridge was fabricated by CTS Bridges Limited.

The bridge will provide a link for members of Christ Church between its sports ground and the main college buildings.  Members of the public will be able to walk onto the bridge itself to enjoy new views of the Meadow and the river.

Christopher Lewis, Dean of Christ Church, said today:

“We are delighted to see the completion of this beautiful bridge, which we believe will greatly enhance Christ Church Meadow and the River Cherwell.”
