Appointment of the Revd John Witheridge as Chaplain to the Queen

We are delighted to announce that The Revd John Witheridge, Honorary Chaplain at Christ Church, has been appointed a Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen.

John Witheridge served as Chaplain to Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury, before moving to be Conduct (Senior Chaplain) of Eton College and then Headmaster of Charterhouse for eighteen years. He has been an Honorary Chaplain of Christ Church Cathedral since 2016. The Sub Dean of Christ Church, Canon Edmund Newey, said, ‘We are delighted that John’s years of faithful ministry in key positions have been recognised in this way’. The role is largely ceremonial but includes occasional preaching in the Chapels Royal.
