Christ Church Cathedral Music Outreach Project Concert

On Monday 26th June, a concert was held in Christ Church Cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of the Cathedral’s Music Outreach Project. The project, a long-standing collaboration between Oxfordshire County Music Service and Christ Church Cathedral School, is funded by the Cathedral School and aims to encourage more singing and instrument-playing in schools, and provides training for music teachers.

Christ Church Cathedral choristers at the outreach concertPupils from Christ Church Cathedral School were joined by Cathedral Choristers and pupils from five primary schools across Oxfordshire (Appleton, North Hinksey, West Oxford, St Francis, and Botley), and performed two pieces of music that had been written by composer John Madden especially for the occasion.

As well as celebrating the project’s tenth anniversary, the concert was also a celebration of the many schools and children that the project has helped – more than fifty local schools have been involved in the project over the last ten years. A record number of people were in the audience of this year’s concert, and it’s great to see how much the project and the pupils who are involved in it are thriving.
