Diwali celebrations at Christ Church

On Wednesday 18 October a Diwali Dinner was held in Hall to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights. It was an evening of music, dance and colour, accompanied by delicious food specially prepared by our excellent kitchen staff.

Arriving at Bodley Tower for the meal, members of college and their guests were greeted by the sight of the Hall stairs transformed by strings of lights, which also decorated the entrance to the Hall itself, creating an atmospheric setting for a dinner to celebrate the festival of lights. Inside the Hall, there were dancers performing during the evening, and following the conclusion of the meal members of college exited into Tom Quad to see a performance by a fire-juggler.

Everyone was encouraged to dress colourfully for the event, and many people were wearing traditional clothing for the occasion. The delicious menu included options of Chicken Dhansak Curry, Paneer and Vegetable Korma, or Vegetable Korma, along with rice, dhal and poppadums.

It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by everyone who attended, and was described by the Dean as ‘a great evening of food, music, dance and culture’. Thanks to the organisers, the kitchen and hall staff, and the entertainers for their contributions to this fantastic evening!
