Beazley and Christ Church

Sir John Beazley, the world’s greatest scholar of Athenian figure-decorated pottery, held his first academic position at Christ Church, and the library houses rare and important books on ancient Greek art. To celebrate his life's work Christ Church Library has recently opened an exhibition, the objects selected for display, combined with the individual books and manuscripts put these in context.

As  a companion to the exhibition, the library has also published a book, Beazley and Christ Church: 250 Years of Scholarship on Greek Vases, edited by Diana Rodríguez Pérez, Thomas Mannack and Cristina Neagu. The volume is also an aid to undergraduates studying for Mods, Prelims, Greats, and Finals, postgraduates, and anyone else interested in Greek vases and the    history of scholarship.

Additionally, to complement the exhibition, Christ Church library is hosting a series of talks and handling sessions running from February to May 2016.
