Accessibility

Not all parts of Christ Church are presently accessible to wheelchair users, but we have introduced a number of measures to support visitors with disabilities, and further improvements are being actively planned and programmed.

Wheelchair users are invited to enter by the main gate (Tom Gate) beneath Tom Tower. There is an induction loop at the Porters' Lodge enquiry desk. The Lodge is not accessible to wheelchair users, though a bell to summon assistance is provided. The entry charge is waived for a wheelchair user and one companion. There is ramped access to the north and south sides of Tom Quad and into the Cathedral by the West Door. A platform lift provides wheelchair users access to the Ante Hall (from where there is level entry to the Hall) from Tom Quad. The lift is located beneath the Hall stairs. Please ask for assistance from the Custodian on duty should you wish to use the lift.

An accessible w.c. is available in Tom Quad (beneath the Hall) and is shown on the map. Please ask a Custodian for directions and/or assistance.

The college's principal lecture theatre (not normally open to the general public) has level access, an induction loop and a unisex wheelchair user's toilet nearby. Some residential and tutorial amenities are also accessible to wheelchair users and persons with ambulant and sensory disabilities. Further information will gladly be provided.

For visitors to Christ Church Meadow, ramped and stepped access are provided in the War Memorial Garden.

We welcome advance notice of the special needs of visitors with disabilities. Assistance for wheelchair users wishing to view the Hall and other areas is available.

Disability Equality Scheme

Christ Church is aware of its obligations to extend accessibility for people with disabilities. We have introduced a number of structural and procedural measures and others are being actively planned for early implementation. As part of this broad process, Christ Church has published a Disability Equality Scheme. To be as effective as possible this must continue to take account of the views of members, staff, visitors, worshippers and others - whether with or without disabilities.

Christ Church would be very pleased to receive comments and suggestions. These may be directed to the Steward of Christ Church. The e-mail address is steward@chch.ox.ac.uk ; telephone 01865-286580.
