Opening Times and Prices

Christ Church is both Oxford University's largest College and the Cathedral Church for the Anglican Diocese of Oxford.

Visitors are welcomed throughout the year to enjoy Christ Church's beauty and fascinating history.

However, please note that Christ Church is a working academic and religious institution and some areas, including the Hall and the Cathedral, may close, occasionally without notice. The Hall IS OFTEN CLOSED BETWEEN 11:40 AM AND 2:30PM. The Cathedral closes for choir practice every day at 4:45 p.m. From 1 May, last admission is at 4.15p.m.

The Hall and the Cathedral opening hours for the week Monday 6th July 2015 are detailed BELOW. This information is updated each Monday for the forthcoming week and may be amended from time to time. For advance information or assistance with queries about opening hours please telephone 01865-276492 / 01865 286573 or e-mail: tourism@chch.ox.ac.uk.

The Custodian at the gate will also be pleased to advise you about the best time to enjoy your visit to Christ Church.

The visitor entrance is through the large gate in Christ Church's Meadow Building. For more information about how to find us, choose Find Us from the menu on the left.

Oxford University and Alumni card holders from other Colleges may bring in 1 guest free of charge. This will be reviewed during the year and may be subject to change

 

 

Hall Update - Open from Monday 6 July

The Hall works have now been completed and we are pleased to advise that from Monday 6 July the Hall will be open to visitors again. As a working dining Hall there will be times during our visitor opening hours when the room is closed. This is normally between 11.45am and 2pm while lunch is being served. The opening hours for the coming week will be published below each Monday.

Meadow Walks

Alice in Wonderland Meadow Walk

10, 24 July, 21 August, 4 September 2015 - 2pm

A leisurely circuit of Christ Church Meadow with local historian and author Mark J. Davies to highlight the all-important role of the River Thames in the creation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - printed exactly 150 years ago, in June 1865 - and Through the Looking-Glass. Literary Meadow Walk

17 July, 14, 28 August 2015 - 2pm

With reference to a range of authors spanning more than four centuries – some little-known; some world-famous – the geographical and historical significance of this ‘river-rounded’ location will be explained by local historian and author, Mark J. Davies. Oxford's proud tradition of competitive rowing – in which Christ Church played a crucial formative role – will also feature. Special Interest Event 2016

William Shakespeare: The History Plays From Page to Stage

31 March - 3 April 2016

In 2016 we are welcoming a group of specialist historians and literary scholars who will discuss major aspects of William Shakespeare's History Plays. Debate, intrigue and disagreement will give all participants food for thought and allow us to celebrate the life and works of William Shakespeare.
