Opening Times and Prices

Christ Church is both Oxford University's largest College and the Cathedral Church for the Anglican Diocese of Oxford.

Visitors are welcomed throughout the year to enjoy Christ Church's beauty and fascinating history.

However, please note that Christ Church is a working academic and religious institution and some areas, including the Hall and the Cathedral, may close, occasionally without notice. The Hall IS OFTEN CLOSED BETWEEN 11:40 AM AND 2:30PM. The Cathedral closes for choir practice every day at 4:45 p.m. From 1 May, last admission is at 4.15p.m.

The Hall and the Cathedral opening hours for the week Monday 06 April 2015 are detailed BELOW. This information is updated each Monday for the forthcoming week and may be amended from time to time. For advance information or assistance with queries about opening hours please telephone 01865-276492 / 01865 286573 or e-mail: tourism@chch.ox.ac.uk.

The Custodian at the gate will also be pleased to advise you about the best time to enjoy your visit to Christ Church.

The visitor entrance is through the large gate in Christ Church's Meadow Building. For more information about how to find us, choose Find Us from the menu on the left.

Oxford University and Alumni card holders from other Colleges may bring in 1 guest free of charge. This will be reviewed during the year and may be subject to change

 

 

Update on Hall Closure

Please note that the Hall will be closed until late June so that conservation work may continue on the roof. The college and cathedral will remain open during this time and the entry charge will be adjusted accordingly. Please see below for the Cathedral's opening hours.

 

 

 

 

 

FEATURED TOURS AND EVENTS

Guided Tours - April 2015

Our guided tours allow visitors greater insight into the College's history, its architecture, student life, scenes associated with the world of Lewis Carroll and of course, the Harry Potter films. The tour is led by one of our Christ Church Custodians and lasts approximately one hour. During the tour you will visit the Masters', Pocock and Cathedral gardens, cloisters, quads and hall stairs.

Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter's Tea Party

21 May 2015

Tea will be served in the McKenna Room at 3pm with up to 30 guests and includes a talk on the author and his extraordinary stories.  The tea includes a choice of teas, a selection of finger sandwiches, cakes and tartlets, all carefully crafted by our Chefs to reflect our unique association with Alice in Wonderland. There is an optional Pre-tea Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Christ Church, which will include an explanation of the many Christ Church associations which inspired Lewis Carroll’s Alice stories.

Special Interest Event 2016

William Shakespeare: The History Plays From Page to Stage

31 March - 3 April 2016

In 2016 we are welcoming a group of specialist historians and literary scholars who will discuss major aspects of William Shakespeare's History Plays. Debate, intrigue and disagreement will give all participants food for thought and allow us to celebrate the life and works of William Shakespeare.
