The Boat Club's most recent Olympic Medallist

Charlie Cole, OlympianThe London Olympics of 2012 saw some very remarkable performances by the athletes of “Team GB” with rowing by no means the least area of overall success. However, the bronze medal in the Men’s Fours was won by the crew from the USA – and thus another Olympian enters the annals of the ChChBC.

Charlie Cole, a Yale Varsity Heavyweight before attending Oxford, rowed in the six-seat of the House 1st VIII of 2008 – a very powerful and successful crew, containing three Blues and a further three OUBC triallists. This was soon after his gaining a winning Blue in the Varsity Boat Race on the Tideway.

Charlie becomes our fourteenth Olympian and eighth medal-winner, joining a line stretching right back to Sir Albert Gladstone and Harold Barker in the London Games of 1908.

In his own words:  “We were pleased with the result and I was happy to be representing Oxford and the ChChBC on rowing's biggest stage.”
