Tours and Groups

People have been visiting this medieval church for over 800 years, ever since local pilgrims came here to pray at the shrine of St Frideswide, the patron saint of Oxford. Today we welcome visitors from all over the world, and we hope that you will enjoy your visit. Cathedral Guides are on duty to help you during your visit.

Free guided tours of the Cathedral are available on weekdays at 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm. The tours, which last approximately 30 minutes, start from the main entrance of the Cathedral. The tours have been designed specifically for visitors who want to understand the history, architecture, purpose, and life of the Cathedral but are also working to a fairly tight schedule.

The Dean and Chapter of Christ Church warmly invite parishes in the Diocese of Oxford to visit the Cathedral, to share in its worship and discover its history. The programme for the day is as follows:

  • 3pm Arrive at Christ Church for a guided tour of the Cathedral
  • 4pm Visit to Upper Library or Picture Gallery
  • 4.30pm Afternoon tea in the Great Hall
  • 5pm Visit to the Treasury and Cathedral Shop
  • 6pm Choral Evensong
  • 7pm End of visit.

The programme runs during university term-times throughout the year. There will be a charge for tea but guided tours are FREE. For further information and availability please contact Miranda Hockliffe:
