Talk / Lecture

As a part of the continuing program of research on the Henry Aldrich Choral Edition project, Dean Jobin-Bevans (Professor of music at Lakehead University, Canada) will deliver a paper on the subject of Henry Aldrich's choral verse anthems originally composed for liturgical use in Christ Church Cathedral.

Aldrich composed a total of sixteen verse anthems, representing over one half of his total compositional output, that follow a traditional verse anthem structure used by contemporary composers, such as Henry Purcell. This discussion will examine the ways in which Aldrich followed, and sometimes made departure from the traditional form of the late sixteenth-centre verse anthem structure.

There will be a performance of the anthem O Lord! Grant the Queen a Long Life by Aldrich to conclude the talk.
