A live musical performance conducted by James Potter will launch of the CD Henry Aldrich: Sacred Choral Music The disc will make available for the first time in over three hundred years many original compositions by Aldrich (Dean of Christ Church, 1689-1710). The CD is a celebration of Aldrich’s musical output, serving to enhance our understanding of the breadth of his intellectual legacy.

This recording is a part of an ongoing program of research in the Henry Aldrich Choral Project, featuring service and anthem music composed by Aldrich for use in regular Cathedral services throughout the last decades of the sixteenth century. Additionally, this CD compilation includes the chorus Conveniunt doctae sorores, composed for the Oxford Act of 7 July 1682, an Ode not heard since the occasion for which it was composed. The launch will also include a short discussion lead by Dean Jobin-Bevans, the editor for the project, followed by light refreshments.

The performance and launch will take place in the Upper Library at Christ Church on Friday, 22 November, beginning at 5:30 pm. All are welcome. The event is free of charge, but spaces are limited. To book a place, please contact the Keeper of Special Collections at Christ Church.
