The following list of the contents of the reels is based on Aloys Hiff's Catalogue of printed music published prior to 1801 now in the library of Christ Church Oxford, OUP, 1919, which is included on reel 76 of the microfilm set.
Please note that many of the music books are sets of part-books. Each set may contain several different printed works. In order to follow the format of the physical collections faithfully, each part-book has been filmed in its entirety. The following excerpt from the list shows part-books Mus. 284-288:
Reel 11 | Mus. 284-288 | Vermeren, etc.: Florida verba. 4 parts, lacking Bassus. Antwerp, 1661. [See also Mus. 887-892] Casati: Amoenum rosarium odoriferis concentuum rosis. Cantus, Altus, Tenor, Bassus-continuo only. Antwerp, 1649. Monferrato: Motetti concertati a due e tre voci. Canto I, II & Organo only. Antwerp, 1660. Casati: Opera primi pars prior, continens Moteta. 3 parts. Antwerp, 1662. Geertsom: XIV motetta ... Liber secundus. 3 parts. Rotterdam, 1661. Borremans: Cantiones natalitiae quinque vocum. Cantus, Praecentus, Altus, Tenor, Bassus contin. only. Antwerp, 1660. Marcesso, etc.: Sacra corona. Cantus I, II & Basso-continuo only. Antwerp, 165 |
First on the film is the whole of Mus. 284, which contains the Cantus parts from all the pieces listed except Sacra corona, followed by the whole of Mus. 285, giving the Altus parts from three of the pieces, and the Cantus I part from Sacra corona, and so on. Note that only one of the pieces listed requires all five part-books; the others each consist of only three or four parts. The order in which the printed works are bound may vary from book to book within a set of part-books.
Some sets of part-books are spread over several reels. For example Mus. 887-892 is a set of six books filling the three reels numbered 51-53. Some of the printed works included in Mus. 887-892 have only three or four parts, so it may not always be necessary to buy all three reels if you are interested in such pieces, depending on how the pieces are distributed among the part-books. The exact composition of each set of part-books is complicated, and the list only attempts to indicate which reels are required to obtain the full set of part-books.
Please consult the on-line music catalogue to search for specific printed works.
