Long list announced for the 2021 Wingate Literary Prize

Christ Church Library is happy to announce that Jewish Treasures from Oxford Libraries has been long listed for the prestigious 2021 Wingate Literary Prize. This is a volume published earlier this year, including an important contribution by Dr Rahel Fronda, who has been tirelessly working on the collection of Hebrew early printed books and manuscripts at Christ Church.

Now in its 44th year, the annual prize is awarded to the best book, fiction or non-fiction, to translate the idea of Jewishness to the general reader. The 2021 Wingate Literary Prize long list explores a diverse range of important themes this year, including the Russian Empire, the Holocaust, climate change and Jewish heritage.

Lavishly illustrated, Jewish Treasures from Oxford Libraries brings together a series of essays by experts in the field. Together, they offer a fascinating journey through Jewish intellectual and social history from the tenth to the twentieth century.

The Wingate Prize short list will be announced late January and the winner will be announced at the end of February.
