New Succentor for Cathedral

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Succentor, the Revd Philippa White. Philippa trained for ministry at Ripon College Cuddesdon, before which she was office manager for an architect after her degree in Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge. She has served her title in Lincoln, where she is curate of both St John the Baptist, Ermine, and Lincoln Cathedral. As Succentor, she will work closely with the Diocesan Canon Precentor on all liturgical matters. Philippa takes up her role in September, at which point we say goodbye to Neil McCleery, who has served as Lay Succentor since the beginning of the academic year. We very much look forward to welcoming Philippa, her husband and son into the Cathedral community.

Canon Edmund Newey, the Sub Dean, said, 'I am delighted that Philippa White will be joining the Cathedral team as Succentor. Both she and we had a clear sense that God is calling her to this ministry. Among her many gifts, Philippa will bring experience, energy and a deep commitment to social justice and we look forward to welcoming her and her family back to Oxford in the autumn.’

The Revd Philippa White said: ‘I'm very excited about the prospect of joining the team at Christ Church, of returning to Oxford— a city I love— and getting to know the Cathedral community. My curacy in Lincoln has introduced me to many of the delights and challenges of cathedral ministry and all the opportunities it offers to share God's love and explore the richness of the Anglican tradition; so I'm very much looking forward to becoming involved with the worshipping life of the communities that call Christ Church home.’
