2017 Boat Races feature eight Christ Church rowers

This year, Christ Church Boat Club is the most represented club in the four boats that will be racing against Cambridge in the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races.

We have three athletes who will be rowing in the Blue Boats, two for Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC) and one for Oxford University Women’s Boat Club (OUWBC).

William Warr (bow seat), who is studying for a DPhil in Population Health will be the third man to row for both Oxford and Cambridge in the Boat Races, having raced for Cambridge in 2015. He has also represented GB at the World Championships on a number of occasions, as has Oliver Cook (3 seat), who is reading a MSt in Imperial & Global History and who trained with the GB squad for the Rio Olympics. For the OUWBC Blue Boat, Harriet Austin (6 seat) who is studying for an MBA will be making her debut for Oxford but has previously represented New Zealand at the Elite World Rowing Championships.

We also have an astounding 5 rowers in the Reserve Boats, Isis and Osiris.

In Isis, James White (bow seat) who studies Geography makes his return to the dark blue kit having been the Blue Boat spare in 2015, and a member of the Blue Boat last year. William Cahill (3 seat) studies PPE and has previously represented South Africa at the World University Games. Benedict Aldous (7 seat), who studies Engineering is also making his Oxford debut and has previously represented GB at the Junior World Rowing Championships. The fourth representative in this half Christ Church Boat Club Isis boat is Claas Mertens (stroke seat), who studies an MPhil in Politics: European Politics and Society and who has represented Germany in the World Rowing Championships. Finally, in Osiris we have Lise du Buisson (2 seat) who is reading for a DPhil in Astrophysics, and who was a novice at ChChBC in 2015!
