Christ Church Fine Art student Peng Yao has won the 2022 Geoffrey Rhoades Prize for art

Geoffrey Rhoades Commemorative Bursary winner Peng Yao's work explores the world of children's imagination and childhood memories.

Piper, Dec 21. Polymer clay, Aluminium foil, Chopsticks. H 19 cm x L 15 cm x W 10 cm.This bursary is awarded to a candidate of sufficient merit, by the examiners in the Preliminary Examination in Fine Art whom they regard as the most outstanding on the basis of work submitted for the examination.

Describing her work, Peng said: “In my studio practice, I have been interested in childhood play and worldmaking, exploring the ways in which both formal and subconscious childhood memories or imaginations can impact a child’s sense of self, formation of identity, and interaction with the world.

“I like to explore this through an assemblage of different materials, mediums and installations, looking at the relationships between the 2D and 3D, the figurative and abstract.”
