Online Booking

The Coronavirus - Important message

The College’s first priority remains protecting the health and safety of all members of the Christ Church community and at this stage of the pandemic that means reducing wherever possible the number of visitors to our various sites.

It is for this reason that Christ Church is now closed to tourists until further notice. Details about when and how we will reopen to tourists will be published as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

On-Line booking FAQ

Can I book tickets online on the day of my visit?

Yes, tickets may be booked online for available sessions.

An entry time shows as 'fully booked' online, can I still purchase tickets in person from the Visitor Centre?

If we are able to accommodate more visitors on days that show as fully booked online then we will endeavour to do so.

Which tickets can be purchased online?

Standard admission tickets may be bought online in advance of your visit. As a working college and cathedral areas of Christ Church, such as the Hall and Cathedral, close when they are being used for private events, services, exams or meals. When a known closure or access restriction is in place, such as the Hall or Cathedral being closed, tickets will only be available to buy in person at the Visitor Centre and prices reduced accordingly.

How many tickets can I buy online?

Our online tickets are reserved for individuals and families. You may buy up to 9 tickets per morning and up to 9 tickets per afternoon. We do not permit more than 9 tickets to be booked across successive timeslots. If there are 10 or more people in your party then we recommend that you book your visit in advance through our Groups Co-ordinator. Please visit the Groups section of our website for full information. Please note that we are often fully booked for group visits and recommend booking as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment. If more than 9 tickets are purchased for any given morning or afternoon then these will be cancelled and refunded.

How will I receive my tickets?

You will be emailed an e-ticket that will include your unique Booking Reference Number and a barcode. We suggest printing out the e-ticket or having it ready to show on your smartphone as this will contain a barcode which will grant you quicker access. If you don’t have a printer or smartphone simply make a note of the Booking Reference number and take it with you, coupled with some photographic ID.

I have bought tickets for multiple people in one transaction and received a single e-ticket. Can we each bring a copy of the e-ticket and arrive separately?

E-tickets may only be redeemed once and therefore everyone you have purchased tickets for will need to enter together.

What is the advantage of booking tickets online?

Christ Church is one of the most popular places to visit in Oxford. Queues often form at our Visitor Centre, throughout the year and we cannot always guarantee entry. By booking online you will avoid the long queues and be able to enter via our fast-track lane at peak times.

Please note that at our busiest times queues may form inside Christ Church for the Hall and Cathedral. We do our best to minimise this and maintain visitor flow.

How long is my ticket valid for?

Tickets purchased online are valid for the date and time stated on your e-ticket. In July and August you will be able to enter up to 10 minutes after the time stated on your e-ticket. From January to June and September to December you may enter up to 20 minutes after the time stated on your ticket. Each ticket has a unique barcode and can be used only once for entry.

What if I am late?

If you are late and miss your entry time we will do our best to accommodate you at the next available opportunity but cannot guarantee entry. Because online tickets are only sold for times when everything is open, if you miss your booked entry time you may not be able to visit some areas of Christ Church.

Are tickets refundable?

Tickets are non-refundable.
