Coronavirus - Important Message

Our visitor offer has changed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The information below gives you an impression of what you will be able to see during your guided visit. There may be restrictions or partial closures in place.

To ensure that all our visitors enjoy their experience of Christ Church and remain safe, we are limiting numbers and asking everyone to book onto a guided visit with a member of our Visitor Services team. Relax and Shop

Our Shop is located in the thatched barn in the Meadow, opposite the entrance to Christ Church (Meadow Gate). Inside you will find a beautiful selection of gifts, books and souvenirs.

Explore the Meadow

Christ Church is situated in Christ Church Meadow, a rare open space at the heart of Oxford, open to the public all year round. Bring a picnic, watch students rowing on the river, and see the Longhorn cows which graze an area of the Meadow in the summer months.

Cathedral of Oxford

On a tour of the Cathedral, you will learn more about the fascinating history of this extraordinary building from its origins as an Anglo-Saxon Church in the time of St Frideswide, its life as an Augustinian monastery in the Middle Ages, to its current status as College Chapel and Cathedral of the Diocese of Oxford.

The Cathedral is currently closed Monday-Friday for essential works. However, the Cathedral will be included in the Guided Visit at weekends whenever possible. Please check carefully when booking.

We have recently begun a cautious return to public worship after the three-month suspension due to the pandemic. We are now able to welcome worshippers to limited services. Please see below for details. We will also continue to offer services online at www.chch.ox.ac.uk/onlineworship. For more information, see www.chch.ox.ac.uk/cathedral/covid

Discover Famous Filming Locations

Many films and TV programmes have been filmed at Christ Church, from Harry Potter to Inspector Morse. How many locations do you recognise?

The Great Hall

One of the largest halls in Oxford, it was the room's architectural splendour that inspired the look of Hogwart's Hall in the Harry Potter films. As you walk around the tables where our students still dine to this day, you can see portraits of some of Christ Church’s most famous alumni and – in winter – feel the warmth from the fireplaces.
