Qualifications

MSci in Natural Sciences (Physics) (Cambridge, 2010); PhD in Astrophysics (Cambridge, 2014)

Academic background

I studied for my PhD in the Cavendish Astrophysics group at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Dr Julia Riley. My research focused on using data from a range of telescopes to better understand the nature of faint, extragalactic radio sources.

After completing my PhD I moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where I held an SKA Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of the Western Cape for five years.

I returned to the UK at the end of 2019 to take up a Hintze Research Fellowship in the Astrophysics group in the Physics Department here in Oxford.

Research interests

My research focuses on radio galaxies – galaxies shooting giant jets of energetic particles from the supermassive black hole at their centre – and how they affect the stars forming in the galaxy. I am currently using the newly built MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa to discover more about the properties of radio galaxies and how they affect galaxy evolution.

Featured publications

I have published several articles detailing the results of my research in major astronomical journals. You can find a list of my publications here.

Other interests and activities

I particularly enjoy sailing.
