College Librarian

I have overall management responsibility for all of Christ Church’s libraries and their staff, encompassing both working and special collections.  My role here involves ensuring that the Library remains at the heart of the academic life of the College and offers all of the services required by members of the House, whilst simultaneously developing the leadership strategy for the care, conservation and promotion of the Library’s incredible special collections in both physical and digital formats.  I am also keen to build on the Library’s role in outreach and schools liaison work.

As an undergraduate, I read Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Magdalene College, Cambridge and then undertook a Masters in Library and Information Studies with a focus in manuscript studies and historical bibliography at University College, London.  I have worked in the libraries of Trinity and Christ’s Colleges, Cambridge and was Head of Reference at the London Library.  I joined Christ Church in September 2016 from my post as Curator and Digital Projects Librarian at the Parker Library, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where I had responsibility for caring for some of the most important Anglo-Saxon and medieval manuscripts in existence.

My research interests centre around the impact of the tenth-century monastic reform movement on manuscript production in England, the social function of books in the medieval world, the interplay between script and print, and the survival of medieval libraries during the Reformation.
