Revd Clare Hayns
As College Chaplain and Welfare Coordinator I am here for everyone, whether junior or senior members, staff or students, people of any faith, or none.
The Chaplain is often the first point of contact for anyone wanting confidential advice or support, whether that is about personal, academic or spiritual matters. I am based in Killcanon 1 and you are welcome to come and see me at any time. I have a coffee machine and a plenitful supply of biscuits. As Welfare Coordinator I work alongside a wonderful team of welfare supporters who consist of JCR and GCR Welfare Officers, Peer Supporters, Welfare Advisors and the College medical team. We also have access to the University Counselling Service. All the information about the welfare provision for undergraduates can be found in this helpful JCR Welfare Handbook.
At Christ Church we are in the unique position of having the Cathedral as our ‘College Chapel’. College members are welcome to attend any of the regular services and events and you can find more details about these on the Cathedral pages. As Chaplain I lead regular and occasional services and you can find more information about service times and events on the Chapel and Term Card page, and from the Term Card attached above.
About the Chaplain
I moved here in 2015 with my family which consists of my husband, three boys and a little dog (Sheba). Before being ordained as an Anglican Priest I was trained as a Social Worker in London working with people with addictions and with young homeless people. My husband John is an entertainer (aka Juggling John and Johnny Oxford!) and we established and ran an entertainment’s agency for many years where my role was an events manager and party organiser. My theological training was at Ripon College, Cuddesdon and I served my curacy in the Benefice of Blenheim, a group of parishes just north of Oxford.
