John was born on 13 December 1883, the elder son of Piers Egerton-Warburton of Arley Hall, Northwich, Cheshire and his wife Hon. Antoinette Elizabeth Saumarez.

He was educated at Eton for whom he played cricket in the Eton X1 in the 1901 and 1902 seasons. He was up at Christ Church from 1902-04.

In 1909, he married the Hon. Lettice Legh. They were living at 33 Eccleston St. London SW in 1911 and he was a “Lieutenant in the Army.” [Scots Guards] He was gazetted Captain in December 1914.

His father died in 1914, and in May 1915, John was wounded and was sent to the Manchester Military Hospital where he died from acute blood poisoning on 30 August.

He is buried in the churchyard of St. Mary and All Saints, Great Budworth, Northwich, Cheshire. His name is on the War Memorial at Appleton Thorn, Northwich and the MCC Memorial at Lords

His second child, Priscilla, was born on the following 5 November. He also had a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1909. She inherited his estate and married Desmond Flower, the 10th Viscount Ashbrook in 1934. She died in 2002.
